What does maintenance mean to you? It should mean maintaining your HVAC system to make it last longer and have less service calls. For many their experience is the absolute opposite, and the only thing they sought out of a maintenance contract was a discount on service calls. That makes no sense to me. Because they don’t actually have maintenance done they pay to have service calls, and the discount they received didn’t amount to any savings. Maintenance on a HVAC system should take anywhere between 1-1.5 hours and should involve cleaning coils, clearing drains, lubricating parts, checking all electrical components, and refrigerant pressures. It should not involve bringing filters for you. Filters are your responsibility they should not be changed only twice a year. If all you care about is a discount and a filter change then save your money because your going to have a lot of service calls!!!
The pictures below is a condenser with a clogged outdoor coil that had been maintained by a local HVAC company in Myrtle Beach for the past 3 years.
