I’ve been on many of these calls now since I started my business. A sensing bulb is suppose to only sense the temperature of the suction refrigerant line and nothing else. If it gets any air temp over it then it will no longer work as it is suppose to. The air will be warmer than the refrigerant line and it will cause the TXV to open up and allow to much liquid refrigerant skewing your charge and your Delta T would drop thus causing the house to heat up as well due to loss of proper Delta T (temperature split between air entering coil and the air leaving the coil aka: return air vs. supply air). By determining that a sensing bulb is installed incorrectly you can easily fix a problem that has been on going for a client since their system was first installed. Also for a system in an attic the sensing bulb should always be installed inside the air handler cabinet still properly insulated.
